Eco Be

What is the history behind this project?

The relevance of a theme like ecology is needless of evidence. It is the concern of governments and public alike, especially the focus on recycling and reduction of waste because of its impact on the environment and the expensive costs that come when it is neglected. Exhibitions about the environment usually use informative methods of presentation where companies display their new environmentally friendly technologies to promote green living. There have also been many art exhibitions dealing with the issue of environment but have most of the time been articulated similarly; a display of artwork made of waste materials.

What is the problem to be addressed?

Environmental issues are perhaps not as popular amongst the younger members of the society as they are with middle aged- older people. It is not "cool" to recycle or care about nature. There is not enough done for young people, by young people, who can speak the same cultural and mental language. Therefore there is a great need of boosting education in this area by reaching the younger audience directly and indirectly through leaving memorable impressions instead of usual rigid textual and informative methods.

The idea:

The idea is to have a traveling exhibition with ecology as the main theme. It would be held inside one of London’s bendy buses to visit schools across the City.

We will be dividing the bus into two sections.

1. The first shows a neat, homely living room that would be filled with bin bags of which only a few will be filled with real food waste to create some reality to the scenery. Those bags will be changed before the formation of fruit flies and bugs. We will also be using (stink bombs) to cause bad smell. The foul smell is important as a shocking factor. There will be a path in the middle of the installation for the visitors to walk on without stumbling on anything. The Visitors will be given face, masks to avoid the smell and to purposely create a more dramatic feeling to the whole experience.

The TV in the living room will be showing a video on waste in the landfills, and the different ways to reduce waste.

2. The second section will be separated from the first room with a door. The room will be fresh and well ventilated to avoid any bad smell penetrating into it. It will contain signs and posters of typographic nature with short, simple and strong statements and information about waste and the environment. The atmosphere (choice of colour and layout) should encourage and help absorb information and make a memorable impression.

Target group:

Mainly Young people but should be enjoyed by anyone adults too. Ecology is theoretical subject and is usually presented in the form of written information. But because our main target group will be young people, we wanted this exhibition to be designed to give facts by leaving an impression on the mind of the viewer instead of the traditional informative way. We are designing it to be as text-less as possible, and the facts that will be displayed will be presented in a pictorial form with creative typography, word play and colour as means.

Aim:

1.To encourage recycling.

2.To raise the awareness about the importance of waste reduction.

3.To reach the audience in the most effective way.
